A casket spray specifically refers to a floral arrangement placed on top of the casket during a funeral service. This arrangement is often designed to be a significant part of the funeral decor, symbolizing love and respect for the deceased. The casket spray serves both an aesthetic purpose, creating a visual focal point, and an emotional one, as it conveys the sentiments of mourning and remembrance from family and friends.

This type of floral tribute can vary in size, color, and type of flowers used, typically reflecting either the deceased's preferences or the preferences of the family. The act of placing flowers on the casket is a long-standing tradition in many cultures, often signifying the beauty of life and the sorrow of loss.

In contrast, a decorative cover made of fabric for the casket is referred to as a casket cover or shroud, while floral arrangements used only at memorial services or bouquets given to family members do not fit the specific definition of a casket spray.
